knitting

Well my friend Susanna has been posting all manner of finished projects on her blog and I feel behind- he he. So here is what I have had on the needles lately.

This is a little gnome I made for a friend who is having a baby- I got one as a gift myself and asked for the pattern from the girl who gave it to me. He turned out really cute and I am starting to just keep one of these going all the time because they are quick and easy and a great way to use up yarn scraps. The next one is yellow and green- very cute. These will make great little gifts and are just so sweet and soft.

Then we have a wool wrap (cover for cloth diapers) that I made for the baby. I have yet to sew the buttons on- there will be 2 oneach side to close it up. I dyed the yarn myself and really like how it turned out, but alas, it is probably going to be too small. It does not fit over my small diapers, which Stella wore at birth, so it probably will not fit this one either. Ah well, back to the drawing board. I will either sell this or give it as a gift to someone who has a baby around 6 or 7 lb. It was good practice though, and I will make a larger one when I get a chance because I really do like it.

Now on the needles is my very first sock. I got this yarn a while back from a friend, and just now finally got the needles I needed to get started. I have been preoccupied with another project though, so this tiny start on the top of the sock has been sitting, but I will get back to it soon. These will be just for ME :)

And the project that I have been spending all my time on now is this: a striped blanket for the baby. If all goes well I plan to make one for Misty as well (who is due 3 weeks before me) but this one is the trial run. What I have done here is about 1/4 of the total blanket, I have almost finished the first repeat of the pattern. You can see what the finished product should look like here. I am doing this one in the pattern recommended merino wool, which is wonderfully soft and beautiful, but requires hand washing. If all goes well and I do a second one, I will probably look for machine washable yarns to replace these with, to make it easier for Misty to care for.

I have done a few other small items for gifts, and sadly sent them off without taking pictures (bangs head on desk). What was I thinking?! I do not know. I made 2 different umbilical cord hats like the ones seen here, both with hand dyed yarn. I need to get those mamas to send me pictures of them! One has already made it onto the head of a sweet newborn boy belonging to my friend Louise who lives in Mexico, and she says it looks fabulous on him.

So that's it for now- off to knit a few more stripes on that blanket!

  1. I love the gnome, and the cover is very cute. You know I just sold one that was small that I'd used on Felicity for a little bit, and it wasn't nearly as neat looking. Got about $8 for it on ebay. This cover you have here is so fetching...I think you could get more for it if you wanted to sell it...though e-bay is a profit pig...so maybe you wouldn't want to list it there anyhow. I love your use of colors. That's a real strength you have.
