challenge halfway met

So. The big bad cookbook cabinet has proven to be quite the monster! We spent the week sorting, culling, and filing recipes and do in fact have most of them organized. Daisy has been a big help to me, spending a good bit of time sorting things into categories with me and she even got a bit of typing practice in. There is still a small stack of recipes in the "needs typing out" folder, and I need to get or make dividers for the 3 ring binders. But for the most part, the recipes are all organized and filed in 2 binders- one with side dishes and main courses (which we divided further into the categories of beef, poultry, pork, fish, soups/salads, and pasta/non-meat dishes), and one with desserts, breads/pastries, and sauces/dressings/dips. Everything is in plastic sheets- mostly full page size but some pages are the pocket type made for photos, with recipe cards or clippings slipped in.

The second part of this challenge- the completely undone part- was the craft and activity idea binder. All of these clippings are in a folder, awaiting sorting and filing. I ran out of plastic pages as well as time, so I will continue on with this part for the coming week.

It sure does feel good to have the recipes in order though- this will make my life a lot easier and I think we will be trying more dishes that were hidden away in the mess of the cabinet before. I intend to pull in one or two previously untried recipes each week, and if we don't love them then I'll pull them out of the binder. In a year or so we should have a book full of recipes that we actually use and enjoy!

**There are no pictures in this post because our delightful little dachshund, Georgia, chewed the cord for my digital card reader this week. Grrrrrrrrrrrr. Hopefully we will have that problem fixed soon.**

  1. I'm so happy to see this post. I've been checking back to see what kind of progress you've made. I actually want to copy your idea so I wanted to see how things were going. I think I'll put some plastic sheets and a binder on my shopping list this week ;-) Thanks for the motivation and ideas!
