I'd really like to get a new system for the spices- I don't think the Tupperware ones are really very air tight (they have very convenient flip-top lids, but I think air gets in because of that) and I do need something large enough for all the spices I have on hand- but for now I just cleaned out and reorganized. There's no telling what shape/size the cabinets will be in the next house, so there's no point in spending money on it now. I'll wait until we are settled.
So, I filled as many of the Tupperware containers as I could, which emptied a number of jars and freed up some space. I changed things around and found a setup that gave me a lot more open space for the liquid and dry measuring cups, which is one thing that was always seeming crowded. I also put all the measuring spoons in a little basket and moved them up to this cabinet. They had previously been floating around in a drawer but they make more sense up here. Now I can just grab the whole basket when I am cooking and have them all within reach, instead of walking to the other side of the kitchen each time I need a different size. This is good. More streamlined.
And of course, the junk is out of the junk drawer and the napkins are neatly folded inside. Much better. The only thing I really needed to relocate from that drawer were the matches and lighters, which are small so it wasn't too difficult. The rest truly was JUNK, so I'm glad to have it out of the kitchen!
That looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, Jennifer! We sure do understand the "we can't get anything permanent until we're settled" part. We seem to always be in transition! It's frustrating, but it allows us to keep the clutter to a minimum because we always know we're going to have to pack it all up again! Hopefully we'll be out of here in a year and a half. Where to? Home to Minnesota. We miss it way too much to be gone for much longer. We've spread our wings and flown much higher than anyone anticipated, but we're ready to be closer to family, friends, and all things familiar. Hope you find your roots, too! Though it seems you get comfortable where ever you go. Which is wonderful. It was nice to hear from you on my blog. Hope we can keep in touch, though I understand your busyness. You have your hands more than full! In a very good way. :)
