biting (and yelling)

Lyle popped a top tooth through his gums this weekend, and he has been biting me ever since. I started out just doing what I could to get him to stop right away, but he keeps doing it so I have had to resort to using a very loud voice. I made him cry tonight when I said "NO!" (ok, so it came out a little louder than I had intended it to, even making Jason jump in the next room) which made me feel really bad. But if he bites me too hard or too many times it could mess up our nursing relationship while I recover from a bite involving broken skin, so that would not be good either. So I must persevere- even if I have to yell a few times.

Next time you talk to a nursing mom with a teething baby, give her a high five and tell her she is your hero! This stuff is not for the faint of heart, folks. I think I need to place that order for the shirt I've been eyeing. :)

  1. ouch! olena doesn't have any teeth yet but i'm dreading it. she gums me pretty hard so when she does cut a tooth its not going to be pretty! at my lll meetings they recommend bringing baby right in to the breast to cover up their nose for a second. sounds strange to me but many mamas have had success with it, yelling seems more instinctive to me as well ;-)

  2. My mil told me to give a little flick to the nose, but I found the covering the nostrils to be more effective. They have to let go to breath...and then I put biter down and walk away. They usually cry, and I look like the bad guy.

Lyle is so sweet...I can't imagine him being naughty. ((hugs)) to you.

  3. I do just like Suzanna said but I'm also pretty nortorious for not saying a word but just plunking them down on the floor and walking away. (probably cursing under my breath as well) Good luck and I hope he stops using you as a teething ring soon! :) Theresa
