drive-in

We went to the drive-in movies this weekend. Everyone has still been feeling a bit off health-wise, but we decided that we were all well enough to get out. The kids love going to the drive-in so much! It really is the best way to see movies with kids I think, because it's ok for them to talk a little or move around without bothering anyone. Plus it's super cheap ($12 for our whole family for 2 movies!) and you can bring all your own food. Can't get much better than that.

So we packed up the lawn chairs, a cooler with a few drinks, some popcorn and a couple of candy selections from the grocery store, and we were off. The movies showing were Shrek the Third and Spiderman 3. Pirates 3 was playing on the other screen along with something else non-kid-friendly, so we'll have to catch that some other time. We were just really glad to be getting 2 movies we actually wanted to see! Often the second movie is not one we are too thrilled about. I guess most everyone else has already seen Spiderman, but this was our first viewing.

We brought the playpen for Lyle, which turned out great because he sat in it while we set up and waited for the movie to start- he thought it was great fun to press his face against the mesh sides and look out at everyone! At home he really only sleeps in it so it was pretty fun to roll around in there and play under the big open sky. Once it got dark and the movie started, he nursed and went right to sleep, and I was able to lay him down instead of trying to hold him through the whole thing. He slept through the rest of Shrek and about half of Spiderman! He was awake for a few minutes and then went back to sleep in my arms for the end of the movie. A really great first experience at the drive-in with a baby!

  1. Looks like alot of fun! Brings back many memories of when you were a child - that was a favorite family activity when you and Tammy were small! I think that is one of the last things we did as a family before you left home also!!

  4. Eh- it was OK. I did not have super high expectations, it being a 3rd and all. It was funny, with the same brand of humor in the other 2 (farting, sneaky jokes that the kids won't get, etc.) I'd definitely watch it again- I probably missed a lot between nursing and getting Lyle down and all.

  6. Oh yes! A nursing kiddo is great at drive-ins. We used to go all the time in Altanta.
