roller derby

We found out when we moved to Athens that there was an active roller derby league in the area. So we figured it would be a really cool thing to go out and see- you know, make it a regular family event or something. A sport we can all get into!

Well.

We ordered our tickets, talked it up with the girls (we currently have one kid whizzing around our hardwood-floored-circular-floorplan-house on skates daily), and were really looking forward to the bout!

I had just enough time to snap a few pictures during the warm-up and the first period, before the fussing ensued. There was a steady stream of complaints: I'm too warm! I can't see! It's too loud! I'm HOT! I want candy! I want to go home! It's HOT IN HERE! Not to mention Lyle, who just wanted to get down and there wasn't a good spot for him to do so.

Lesson learned: we need a babysitter for the littles so we can take the bigs out and actually enjoy events such as this. When we can't spend the time we need explaining things and helping the big kids learn about a new activity because the little kids are unhappy, NOBODY has any fun.

So, we are looking forward to the 2008 season of the Classic City Rollergirls! And hoping we have a reliable place by then to drop Lyle & Stella off on the way to the bouts. :)
