puzzles
Stella got several puzzles for her birthday and has been really enjoying them. She is able to do a 100 piece puzzle with help, and we see her getting better at looking for the right pieces every time we work on one together. She is starting to narrow the choices down based on color, and then carefully turn each piece to find the right fit. Here is an interesting article relating early reading skills with doing puzzles- it makes a lot of sense!
This puzzle is really great for us, because it has one half larger pieces (about like a 100 piece kid's puzzle) and the other half smaller pieces (similar to an adult 500 piece from what I remember). So we get to help Stella along with her half, and then work on something a bit more challenging while she works. It also helps me to just let her work- instead of having to constantly fight the urge to tell her where the pieces go- because I have something to keep me busy. We really like it and will be looking for more in the future. It is a Milton Bradley puzzle, called a "Time For Us" Family Puzzle, but I am having a hard time finding many of them online, including the Milton Bradley website. Hopefully they are not out of stock. There is one with some puppies on it at this web site, but that is about all I could find. We got ours at Target.
