The power went out this afternoon. This is not uncommon at all during the summer- last year we had the power go out for a few minutes a number of times. I guess with everyone running the AC full blast, etc.
Today was a bit different though, it stayed off for several hours and we started to get worried. Fortunately it became quite overcast and a strong breeze kicked up, so we didn't have the blazing sun beating down on us. But it was getting close to dinner time and I wasn't sure I wanted to open the frige and let out the cool air that was still surviving in there, just in case this was going to go on for a while. When we called our housing office to see if they knew anything, they told us it was post-wide, and was actually affecting a portion of the state beyond our little plot here on Fort Irwin. They told us they had no information regarding how long it would be out. SIGH.
So we opened up the windows and hoped for the best. Meanwhile the downstairs temperature in our house climbed to 83 or so, and upstairs felt several degrees warmer. Not completely unbearable, but made us wonder what we would do if we really did have to go without AC for a few days, when the sun was out in full force. YIKES!
It actually came back on within an hour of us calling the housing office, so all total the power was out for less than 4 hours. We were able to go about with dinner as scheduled, albeit a little later than we had hoped by the time the lasagna was finished.
Ah, modern technology. We really are quite dependent, whether we like it or not.
Yes, that was weird...glad to know what happened...cause such a bit ta do was made about our improved electicity service by the garrison commander...but I guess rolling blackouts are typical So. California occurances. I was just hoping we'd remains special and not have to be in the same grid.
