We spent Friday and Saturday night in our tent, very very close to the water on San Onofre State Beach (the section of it which is owned by Camp Pendleton). We were really in the ghetto of the campground- very close quarters to the other campers- an RV on one side of us and several tents on the other side, but I'm happy to say that everyone was very courteous and friendly, and we actually utilized the shade from both the tents in the morning and the RV in the evening! We really were in nothing more than a dirt parking lot, just beyone the sand that is the beach. The porta-potties were very close (and actually not too horrible), but running water was at the other end of the campground in the non-ghetto section.
The kids were able to play in the sand near our space without being close enough to the water to make me nervous, so that was nice and kept them occupied while we prepared meals, etc.
Everyone slept VERY well in the tent, to my delight, including me- on my bran-spanking new air mattress just for me and my big belly. Oh how my hips and back ached when I slept on the ground for 2 nights on our last camping trip 3 months ago, so the fact that I slept gloriously this time (at 29 weeks along!) tells me that the $20 for that mattress was money VERY well spent.
I'm sure the perfect sleeping temperature of the southern California coastal nights factored in as well :) although the train running directly past our campground was less than soothing. All in all we had a great tent camping experience again, and are really fine-tuning our packing list and routine so that each time we go we feel more prepared.
And of course, I have to share pictures of the sleeping beauties, after I woke up on that first morning. So peaceful!
You guys make camping look like so much fun...and that saying a lot cause I loathe camping and sleeping in a tent. I'm so glad you guys are back and that Jason will get his eyes fixed...see you later.
