soakers

This one is actually a finished project- just got the tie done last night. Looks like the size will be just perfect to go over our small diapers and fit for a little while, so that is good. The waist band is nice and stretchy- but the leg holes don't have a lot of give to them so I am hoping the baby doesn't have thunder theighs that won't fit! I could pull out the crochet edge and maybe do a ribbed cuff if the crochet proves to be too snug. This is a very pretty colorway from Andes by Elizabeth Austen, that I picked up at a yarn shop in Denver. Still have enough on the first skein to do a hat to go with this, and a whole second skein for something else. I really liked knitting with this stuff! And for anyone out there who knows what a Kitchener stitch join is- I am proud to say that my first attempt at it was highly successful :)

Here is what I have done so far on Daisy's dress for Halloween. Can I just say that I HATE taffeta?! Well at least for making a fitted bodice with curvy seams. The stuff is slippery, you can't tell the right side from the wrong, and it frays like mad. BUT so far I am fairly happy with how this bodice is turning out- I started with one of the back seams so by the time I got to the front I was a little more in practice. I'm not sure I've ever sewn with taffeta before.
The next step involves TULLE. Probably not a good combination with the already challenging taffeta. This dress may be the death of me.

Swatch is done! I hate knitting a swatch. But this is going to be a garment, and I'd like it to fit fairly well, so swatch I did. And even got it measured and calculated late last night. Then this morning I measured myself in all the critical areas, figured up all the math (ouch) and got my first stitches cast on. Then I fell asleep, because I was up half the night with a sick kid, and it was all I could do to stare at 90 stitches as I put them on the needle. Well, it's a start anyway!
I love the soaker! What a pretty color. Great job, Jennifer :)
ReplyDeleteI love you...Mom
That's an adorable soaker...what pattern is that?
ReplyDeleteOops I should have mentioned that- it is the Little Turtle Knits Original Soaker pattern. It's knit in the round from the top down, and then the front and back of the lower section are knit flat, with a Kitchener join between the legs. The tie is I-cord, threaded through eyelet holes that are written into the pattern. A very quick and fun knit! The pattern is $8 and has Preemie sizes on up. http://www.littleturtleknits.com/pages/diaperingpatterns.php
