Today was the best sort of mail day there ever can be! Inside our small mailbox (we have a bank of lock boxes similar to what they have at apartment complexes) was stuffed a large tyvek envelope and a long cardboard tube containing my first 2 skeins of Noro Kureyon and my brand new Lantern Moon needles. Yes, the time has come- the Lizard Ridge knit-along has begun!! And I had to order myself a special pair of new needles along with the yarn just to make the project that much more of a treat.
Even better, there were no bills or junk mail in there to wreck the excitement of the wonderful knitting mail!
And then, as if the cake needed more icing, the mailman also had a big box of Christmas gifts from my parents, which the kids were eagerly awaiting. It was full of some wonderful surprises, not the least of which was a box FULL of Noro Kureyon for me!! Eight more skeins!! I could hardly believe it. Now I will be set to work on the afghan for months without having to order more yarn. The pace I have chosen to work at (along with some online friends) is 2 skeins per month. This will allow us to budget the yarn over the course of the year and also help ensure that we get other things done at the same time instead of working on it every waking hour like our instincts would have us do! (It is rumored to be a very fun project to knit.)
So as I'm sure you can guess, I will be starting to knit very, very soon. Like maybe tonight. We'll see. I'll be posting pictures regularly to show my progress! In the meantime, check out this delicious take on the pattern. Just beautiful! Maybe if I enjoy the pattern enough I'll do one in a single colorway next for some very special recipient. Hmmmmm. Maybe a smaller version for a baby blanket? We'll see. Does anyone know of a pregnant woman out there??
you are going to have SO much fun knitting this blanket. i even dream about it some nights! its just great because not only is it not a boring pattern but the wool keeps you guessing. i think thats why it's so addicting -- you just can't wait to get to the next colour to see how it's going to look!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the results (as well as the progress!). I'm also a knitter, but I'm not nearly as advanced as you are. I'm still in the knit and purl stages. :)
ReplyDeleteAs for a pregnant woman, Rachel (my older sister) is seven and a half months pregnant. I'm making a baby blanket for the little one's christening in May. It will be much simpler than that pattern, though!
hey-
ReplyDeleteI'm all inspired now. I want to do it too. Is the KAL a closed thing?
I have my xmas gift certificate at the lys...
I'm just saying.
p.s. Still love your blog
that's a gorgeous blanket! And yes, I know three pregnant mama's... all three due at the same time, one being my best friend pregnant with #7. Love the colors of the NK!!! Those are gorgeous colors! I'll have to show you mine now... although I'm still in the sissified, simple stage (ok, so I'm still intimidated by the big buck stuff!) Theresa
