Tomorrow we are having a post-wide power outage. From 4 am 'til 10 pm. Can you believe that?! It has to do with upgrading out electric grid or some such. I get it, and it's a good thing, but I think it is very poor planning to do it in January. We will have no heat, no hot water, no electricity. We have done our best to use up food in the refrigerator, and I have packed the freezer with buckets of water in order to have big blocks of ice to help keep the frozen food from going bad.
When we wake up, the house will be cold, (heat will stop running at 4 am) but at least it was a fairly warm day today. The wind is kicking up though, which can seem to blow right through the walls at times. We are going to get up and eat something quick, then head out for town. We planned lots of appointments and errands so that we can just be gone for the better part of the day. We are dropping Georgia (our dachshund) off at the vet to be spayed (they don't do it here on post), dropping Jason's bike off at the shop for the estimate, taking the van to the dealership to get it up to date on recalls, going to the Social Security office to get Lyle a number, and doing some shopping. Lots to do! The power will not come back on until 10 pm, so we are leaving flashlights and candles next to the door for when we get home. Then we'll cuddle up under the covers and try to get warm so we can sleep.
Wow that's crazy! I think it sounds like a PITA but kind of fun too! I think it will be interesting to see what you guys will do to keep busy for those last couple of hours. Good time to use the imagination ;-) Hmmm did you get a helmet with a light on it so you could knit lol!
ReplyDeleteDon't ask, but the power outage caused a LAN line outage for two extra days on this side of post. No phone/ no internet for me till tonight. Ironically, it was quite peaceful! haha! We did the same as you though, dentist appointments then went to V-ville for shopping. Then came home to a super freezing house (59F) so we grabbed a bunch of snacks, a couple movies, my knitting and we sat in the truck for three hours watching movies! Theresa
