blast from the past
Yes.
That is a real, authentic, circa 1978 (or thereabouts) set of Fashion Plates. Not only is it authentic, but it is MY set that Tammy & I played with (endlessly, I might add) when we were kids. My parents so graciously stored this and a number of other treasures from our childhood so we can enjoy them with our kids now. Thanks, Mom & Dad. You totally could have hauled it all off to the Salvation Army, but you didn't. I really appreciate that.
So today Stella asked to get out "that thing that you rub the clothes onto the ladies", and she and Hazel had a good old time picking out outfits, making the outline rubbings on paper, and coloring the patterns into their pictures. Those are some high-stylin' ladies. Most of the outfits could probably pass for normal again out on the streets right now- yikes! Fashion being so cyclical and all that.
Choosing the outfits is Stella's favorite part.
Making the crayon rubbing~
Coloring the picture in with texture~
Look at all the pretty ladies!
(The other set in the pictures is a Barbie thing that is similar, but nowhere near as good. It is flimsy and doesn't have textures on the backs of the plates. And all of the heads look the same- just Barbie in different positions. The real Fashion Plates are waaaaaaay better.)
