eight years old

We had such a busy day, I did not get a chance to come blog about Hazel's birthday! We went bowling this morning with our homeschool group, had lunch at the bowling alley, then came home and Hazel took a bath and we fixed her hair, and then we rushed over to the Dr. Seuss Birthday celebration at the library (Hazel shares a birthday with Dr. Seuss!) Then we had to come back so Jason could whisk her off for her annual birthday date. Whew!

Hazel looked so beautiful all dressed up. She had already chosen her dress and then found the perfect shoes to go with it when we were at the Children's Place a few weeks ago. We curled her hair, and she picked earrings and a necklace out of Mommy's (small) collection of jewelry. She even found a scarf that matched perfectly in the dress-up clothes box that added just the right touch. Just beautiful! I always get a bit choked up when I take these pictures every year- my babies are growing up so fast.

I was a bit ticked off when Jason went to the very small florist who usually has a vary small selection of flowers, only to find that they had CLOSED. Like, the shop had cleared out. Good grief! So he couldn't even buy her a crappy bouquet of carnations. Oh well- it's no big deal really, but I am just tired of there being little to no options available here retail-wise. We live nearly an hour from the nearest town and they close the only florist we have. Nice. OK, rant over.

They went to a steak place in Barstow, since Hazel's favorite food these days is steak. She savored the filet mignon and even wanted to bring some home so Daisy & I could try it. They brought out a piece of cake and sang to her too, so she got to feel very special and celebrated at the restaurant.

So, another year has passed and Hazel is 8 years old. ::sigh:: It's just going too quickly!

Here is the post from last year so you can compare how much Hazel (and Jason!) have changed over the past few years.

  3. Hazel,
You are so beautiful and look so grown up. It's hard to believe it was eight years ago we were sitting waiting for you to arrive. We'll never forget the look on Aunt Misty's face when she came out and said you were born...you came a little faster than expected. I say you were marked with the "shoe" thing because Aunt Misty was in the room when you were born. Pops & I talk often about how beautiful and handsome all of our GRANDchildren are and how fast they are all growing up! We are so blessed! We love this much----------------------------------------------------!Pops and Grammy
