We usually spend several hours per day with Lyle in one of the various carriers. Jason wears him some evenings while doing dishes if I am busy with Stella or picking up around the house and have to do a lot of bending over. I wear him every time we go out- on walks, to the store, to the park, or to our home school group activities. He usually falls asleep easily for at least one nap without being worn, but many days he wants to be in a carrier to fall asleep for one nap or maybe even 2 of them. Asleep or awake though, I really enjoy having him on my back or cuddling him to my chest in a carrier. He still gets plenty of time on the floor to practice rolling and he also sits in his various seats or is held by one of us to play. But having him close to me makes it possible to help him feel secure even as I busily go about my daily activities. I am more in tune to his needs when I wear him, and we are both happiest when we are together!
If I need to be able to put him down once he is asleep (like today, so I could get a haircut during his nap) I put him in my Maya Wrap ring sling, because I can get him out of it with the least amount of jostling. If I know I will be walking while he is in the carrier, I will often choose the Moby Wrap- in a hug hold if he will be sleeping, and lately in a joey hold if he will be awake, because he wants to be able to see more of what is going on around him. If I am going to be doing housework and needing to bend over to do laundry or pick things up off the floor, or to do dishes or light cooking, I choose either the Moby in a hike hold (I still need help getting him in this one) or the good old Ergo Carrier on my back. I used the Ergo a LOT with Stella, and it is supremely comfortable for long periods of time. I can get a kid on my back in the blink of an eye with this one, and Lyle has gotten to where he gets all excited just when he sees me pull it out! So I know he is happy and comfortable in there.
Here are a few pictures we have taken recently while wearing Lyle. (from top to bottom: Moby, Ergo, Maya Wrap)
aw look at how comfy & cozy he is! i love babywearing! i often wonder how people who don't babywear get anything done around the house (plus there are so many other benefits).
