therapeutic sewing

Ahhh. Now that I am (finally) done with the costume sewing I was doing, I am getting some fun stuff back into the schedule. Sewing costumes can be fun, but that whole project lost it's motivation for me very quickly and became a giant chore of a thing. (Note to self: Next time somebody asks you to do something big for a project which does not involve anyone in your family and is not really important to you in any way, SAY NO. Turn and run the other way as fast as you can. You do not have the time. Period. And also? Listen to Jason. PLEASE! He told you not to do this. Over and over again, he did. Next time listen to him.)

So anyway, I sat down and whipped up this cute little roll-up case for storing crochet hooks. Soon it will be on it's way to Kansas City to live with my friend Karla, and keep her crochet hooks nice and cozy and organized. Ahhhh. It feels so much better to sew things that I know will be loved for years to come, by people who I know and love. THAT is what I need to spend my time doing right now. My spare time is limited and precious, and I need to use it to create things for those who are special to me. This was a good lesson to be reminded of.



**This was made from stash fabric of many and varied origins. The black with flowers on the outside of the roll is from yardage that I picked up in a charity thrift shop above Toccoa, GA. The red and white flowers is from yardage I found at the thrift shop here on Fort Irwin. The lighter floral on the flap was a very short skirt in a former life, also from the thrift shop here (purchased solely for it's print!). The stripe is from some yardage which was given to me several years ago- from Jason's sister Misty I think? And the black and gold floral was actually some yardage I purchased new, and never got around to making the dress I had intended it for. And finally, the gold ribbon came out of a box of crafting odds and ends that my Aunt Janet brought me a few weeks ago. All put together into one beautiful (and very useful) piece of sewing. I absolutely adore that aspect of creating from repurposed goods. It gives me a tremendous sense of satisfaction to see things collected from all around come together to make something completely new.
