a good day

We had a great trip, and I'll have pictures from that soon. But today, some photos from our "unwinding day", the day after a trip but before Jason has to go back to work. It was a good day.

We did a little work and a lot of play today- picked the dogs up from the kennel, did a few loads of laundry, unpacked. Washed dishes and payed bills (Jason). Watched a lot of movies (Harry Potter, Pirates, Dumbo), did some sewing (Dolly quilt nearly finished!) and some knitting (finished another square for the afghan- pictures when it is washed and blocked), lounged about on the sofa, and ate brownies all evening.

I wound a couple of balls of yarn with my new winder- for the next 2 squares of the afghan. It's all I can do not to go upstairs and rewind every skein of yarn in the house- that thing was FUN to use!! Here is a picture of how the skeins look when I get them, and how they look wound up. This particular yarn comes in a center pull skein to begin with, but I like to rewind it to look for knots and get to know the colors a bit before I start to knit. Once I get that swift, I'll be winding up a storm, I tell you!

And last, the highlight of my day- making bias tape. Oh, my. It's my new favorite thing to do. This little tool is so slick- I just want to make yards and yards of the stuff (and I might- just watch). This particular bit is for the Dolly Quilt, which is close to completion. Doing this one first for practice was a great idea, because it is helping me decide for sure what to do for the larger baby quilt. I'll probably get started on that one soon- I've got to order some hand quilting thread before I can finish the dolly version off completely anyhow. And fortunately, the larger one will need more bias tape. A lot more, I hope.

  4. I just bought one of those bias tape makers the other day! I was so inspired by your "inspiration" quilt you posted about the other day--I've never made a quilt, but that one was so beautiful it's gone into my crafty future endeavors......

  5. Oooh I can't wait to see the quilt. You made good progress. I'm so jealous that you have a ball winder and swift, I think I'll ask for one for Christmas. Enjoy your new toys :-)
