The girls and I played around with mosaic technique the other day- an idea we got out of our activity binder (I cut out things from Family Fun and other magazines that look like fun and stick them in a binder for when we need ideas.) We used an old magazine for the little squares- looking for pages with a lot of solid color on them instead of words. I actually enjoyed this project more than I thought (note to self: try not to upstage the kids too much during the craft projects!), and can see where I might use it in a permanent decorative use one day- on items like photo frames or end tables or wall hangings or my whole refrigerator... or the van... you know. You could use Mod Podge instead of glue to make it a tougher surface finish. Although we used Aleen's Tacky Glue (diluted like the instructions say) and it turned out very nicely for the paper plates.

wow, they turned out really cool, so fun. I must try this in my journal some day!
