quilting on the brain

So. I've been talking about this baby quilt I need to make for some time. Well first I was going to knit one- but then decided to make another quilt because our niece, Cali, likes the one I made her so much that her new baby sister should have one too.

In case you didn't know, talking does not a quilt make. Sigh.

And now the baby is here (Welcome, London!! We can't wait to meet you!!) so I'd better get cracking. We'll just say I wanted to wait and make sure the baby was a girl before I began quilting with the girly flower fabric, OK? Sounds good to me.

So this is what I have- Monika requested red and white and I went and just got crazy with all the red and white. And then I found that one with the peonies and green stems and fell in LOVE with it, and decided that I just had to have another white background fabric with smaller red flowers. I scoured the internet with no success. I was distraught, I tell you! But, my mom saved the day by finding that other fabric you see in the picture there, with the tiny red flowers. Well done Mom!

But still, weeks later, I have a stack of washed (and washed and washed again- to make sure the reds won't bleed onto the whites) fabric, just sitting here. I have been contemplating it, you know? Waiting for the fabric to speak to me about the design it wanted to become. I won't go into much detail just yet, but I finally struck upon my inspiration the other night- and I cannot think of anything else now. I fell asleep last night making the quilt in my head and thought of it almost as soon as I opened my eyes this morning. I got started on a small, dolly sized quilt tonight- to try some things out before I cut into it for the bigger quilt. I hear Cali has been using a dish towel for her dolly's blanket anyhow, and that just will not do. So hopefully in the near future there will be a semi-matchy pair of quilts on their way to Texas.

  3. Yeah it really is beautiful. Before I found that, I was going to do all just red and white. But the green is very nice.

I'm going to have a lot of all of these left over, I think. I definitely over-bought, just in case. So watch for it to pop up in all sorts of projects in the next few years!
