I just love birthday cakes. I love planning them, making them, photographing them, and of course eating them.



Stella's order was very specific this year: "A heart cake, with chocolate in the middle and pink frosting." So I made my standard chocolate cake (from the recipe on the Hershey's Baking Cocoa) in the shape of a heart. I got a bit carried away with the pink food coloring though, and we had one very bright cake. Since blue is her other favorite color, we used that for the accent color. Not what you might call a classically beautiful cake, but just perfect in the eyes of a certain four-year-old!
