fever

Lyle started to feel a little warm yesterday afternoon. He is due to start cutting molars here soon, so I gave him some teething tablets and put him down for a nap. He woke up earlier than usual and felt pretty hot. So we had a fussy evening, a bath (which he loves, feeling bad or not), and a half-dose of acetaminophen before bed. I don't usually medicate unless a fever is getting pretty high or a kid is really feeling miserable, but both were happening to Lyle. Even his poor little hands and feet felt hot. So the half dose helped him feel a little better so he could rest, but didn't completely break the fever- because it has a job to do. Another half dose in the middle of the night and a LOT of nursing, and he woke up at 8:30 this morning feeling only a teeny bit warm and feeling back to his usual playful self.

I am so glad this waited until we were home. Traveling with a feverish kid is no fun.

On the topic of pictures from our trip: I know everyone is waiting (somewhat impatiently, in a few cases!) and I have made a promise to have lots of photo goodness up on the blog before you all log in on Monday morning. I am fighting with my computer and it's too-old version of Mac OS X. All will be righted over the weekend though, and then you will have more pictures than you care to look at, I assure you.

  1. I'm so glad he's better! Felicity had a fever spike last week to almost 102...I felt her lymph node by her ear was bit swollen, so I rubbed her down with peppermint oil, and treated the ear with similan, fever was gone by morning. It only took about 10 hours to work itself out. It was amazing, Peter's immune response was never nearly that good.

  4. Ahhhh, poor baby. We have been fighting with teething here lately too and last week I dosed the boy with some Motrin, which helped with the fever and the crankiness. Feeling icky is no good!
