baby quilts complete

both quilts

At long last, they are finally done. I can not say enough times how thrilled I am with these either! I am actually a little sad to be sending them off, I got sort of used to snuggling under their warm, patchworked goodness while I was hand stitching the binding.

OK, some stats and links, for those who are interested. The large quilt is 35 inches square, and the dolly quilt is 18 inches square. Here is Lyle with the quilts, for scale (and cuteness) purposes:

There are 9 different red and white fabrics used, and the batting is cotton/poly on the doll quilt (just because that's what I had) and 100% cotton on the larger one. I got the inspiration for the pattern from this post at happythings, and I pretty much did everything just as she did in the tutorial for my blocks. Only I started in the center of each block, building outward from there. And then I placed the blocks in a diamond shape when I pieced the top together for the larger quilt. For the binding, I followed Heather Bailey's tutorial, and I found her knot tutorial quite handy as well during the hand sewing stage. All these years and I never knew how to tie such a neat little knot in my thread! Very nice.

And, the labels! This is the debut use of my new labels, which I got from Namemaker.com. I think the green letters look great with the fabrics in the quilts. I'm looking forward to attaching these to many more handmade items in the future.

I very much hope that Baby London will enjoy her quilt for years to come, and that big sister Cali will have lots of fun with her dolly quilt. We love you both!

  2. I had clicked on your Scrap Swap link, and I think I might have to get involved next year (once I get back into sewing, that is, and we're settled in a place for more than six months). Such a lovely package you got, too! :)
