homecoming
I've never been much of a sports fan (surprise!) but Jason is a UGA fan and the school is a big part of the local culture here. So as long as we are living in town, we plan to jump right into the festivities and have some fun. Our first event was the Homecoming parade on Friday night. We had perfect weather and found a nice spot to sit and watch. The kids were thrilled with the candy throwing portion of the parade, and also liked very much the baton twirlers, pom-pom girls, and "fancy ladies with the sparkly crowns" (in Stella's own words).
My personal favorite is the marching band, but we found out that Lyle does not share my enthusiasm. Poor guy was doing great facing out in the Moby Wrap until that loud band starting playing, and then he lost it. I got him turned around as quick as I could so I could snuggle him up and tell him everything was going to be alright, but I don't think it was fast enough. He was clingy and scared the rest of the parade. I felt really bad! I hope he doesn't have a lifelong fear of marching bands now.
Hazel was particularly impressed with the tubas, and has been doodling marching bands and parade watchers all weekend (in between frequent requests to attend the very next parade we get wind of).
And of course, there were lots and lots of Bulldogs on everything, but we were all excited to catch a glimpse of Uga himself, riding along near the front of the parade. One of our favorite local celebrities!
*Thanks to Daisy for taking these great photos!
