at the farm
We had a very nice visit to Full Moon Farm last week. We saw pigs, cows, horses, and chickens, and also saw the vegetable garden. We learned a little about what is done on this farm, and found out that in addition to providing for the local CSA members, food and meat from this farm is served at the Athens restaurant, Farm 255. We have not managed to get over there yet but I'd really like to check it out.
Eating local food is something we really want to do more of- it is so important in lots of ways. Not only does it support local people financially by buying what they produce, but it is also so much better for the environment because the food does not have to be shipped from very far away before it gets to our table. It is also fresher and better for you because it can be picked at it's peak instead of earlier, the way foods often are when they have to be transported long distances before they are consumed.
