Saturday we participated in our first Maypole celebration. Our friends here have been doing this for years together, and couldn't say enough about how much fun everyone has each spring! So we gathered our ribbon, some food to share (hummus, veggies, and pita bread! mmmmmmm), grabbed a few bottles of wine and some dark chocolate to pass around, and headed for the festivities. A wonderful time was had by all! I do not have pictures of the actual wrapping of the ribbons, since we were all participating, but whenever some show up (there were a few people taking pictures of the dancing), I'll be sure to link to them. Here are a few picture of the kids with their bubbles, and setting up to wind the ribbons around the pole, and finally the beautiful end result. Happy May!!
never heard of mayple... is this something your friends started there? the tree looked pretty colorful with the ribbon up & down it!

ReplyDeletelooks super fun and great pictures, especially the last one! I had heard of a maypole but thought it was a game, didn't know it was a celebration. Definitely have to get in on one of those next year.
ReplyDeleteMaypole-pagen fertility rite. Some poor young girl was wrapped to the pole and sacrificed.
ReplyDeleteBut this one looks like fun.
