meet olive and archie
These are Stella's new friends. I made them with this pattern, from Wee Wonderfuls, and gave them to her for her birthday.
The project started when I found 2 wooden doll beds at a local thrift shop for $10. My first thought was to make quilts to go with them, but once I got started on the quilts I decided there needed to be new dollies too. I have a problem with nice, simple projects, you know. I always feel a need to turn them into very large, involved, complicated things- which I am good at but do not have time for. This will explain some of the lack of posting on this blog lately!
The quilts are made from mix-and-match bits of fabric from my stash- some from the scrap swap, some from old projects, some from thrift shop scrap finds. And the brown linen was even cut out of a dress that was given to me but did not fit. The star backing was a thrifted crib sheet that I have had forever! And of course I was excited to have another chance to add my custom labels to my work- I just love these and they make me feel very proud.
The dolls were made mostly from fabric in my stash as well, although I did have to buy the hair and skin fabrics because I didn't have the right things on hand. You might recognize most of Olive's fabrics from the quilts I made for our nieces last year.
The beds stack on top of each other to make bunk beds, and Stella LOVES them. We plan to make some pillows together for Olive and Archie, and I will probably make them some additional clothes for one of her holiday gifts this year. Stella really seems to be enjoying her new friends, and that makes all the late nights and hard work worth it!

ReplyDeleteSo many comments all saying exactly what I was thinking. Superbly done and deeply thoughtful gift - one I am sure Stella will always cherish. I'm forwarding the doll pattern to my mom. She might could use that idea somewhere along the way herself.
